Facebook’s latest take on Reels
Sep 13, 2023News is out and Reels are in
Meta is set to remove the News tab from Facebook's bookmarks section in the UK, France, and Germany, effective early December. The move is aligned with the company's shift towards prioritizing short-form video content over news, echoing TikTok's approach. While Facebook News was previously available in five countries, it will only survive in the US and Australia. How long will that last, we don’t know. But we assume more changes will follow shortly.
European users can still view news article links on their feeds, and news publishers maintain account access, with Meta encouraging them to use tools like Reels to expand their reach.
What this means for you: In case we haven’t hammered this home enough yet, platforms are taking major steps to prioritize short-form content. This should be an indicator of where they’re placing their bets for consumer engagement and audience behavior. So if it’s not yet a priority for you, we HIGHLY suggest rethinking that. As the Mandalorian would say, “This is the way”.

ASMR is going to the dogs, with this video clocking over 100 million views. You can see how mesmerizing and satisfying it is to keep watching, as the creator shows us the process of pampering her pup. What’s fascinating about this is that she’s not showing us anything that’s wildly unfamiliar (especially if you’re a dog owner). But she’s keeping our attention by showing in great detail the steps of her process, and leaning into the emotions of wonder and satisfaction.
Your takeaway: Is there a visual process in your business you can share with your viewers? What are all the tiny details you could break down? How could you make watching them even more satisfying? Thinking through these questions will help you keep them entertained from start to finish.
