Get Your "Instagram Boyfriend" TikTok Ready!
Nov 14, 2022📸 Hello, Photo
Your Instagram Boyfriend just got a promotion. TikTok recently unveiled a new feature that allows users to upload a carousel of high-quality photos as a video. They automatically display one after the other, and it also allows users to swipe through your photos at their own pace.
Does this mean photos are back? Still TBD, but our Magic 8 Ball says, “Very doubtful”. Even though the, “this is a photo as a video” viral trend generated a lot of UGC over the past few months, we saw it largely underperform compared to video.
Our guess is TikTok is looking to see if carousel photos will outperform its bread-and-butter video content. It's already boosted genres like art, fashion, and photography. But buyer beware: TikTok has stated specifically it only wants “High-Quality” photos. Grainy images may mean bad news bears for your reach.
🎥 What's Trending
Gnarls Barkley’s song, “Crazy” is trending.
This duet between a father and son is blowing up for many reasons, and it's currently sitting at over 37.9M+ plays.
Here’s what’s working: We get the format and immediately want to know what they sound like. The father does something unexpected in his riff, which delights us. The son then gives a great genuine reaction, which adds to our delight. And finally (and probably most importantly) this feels incredibly relatable. We all know someone who has a Dad like this who would sing like this and we’ll most likely share this video with them (if it’s not us).
Your takeaway: Even when participating in viral trends, try to find ways to make your content more relatable. How can you get viewers to say, “That’s so me!” or, “I know someone just like them.” Upping relatability ups views.
