What you need to know about the new TikTok legislation
Dec 19, 2022❌ Is TikTok Getting Banned By The Government??
Short answer? Only if you have a government-issued phone. This week, the US Senate voted unanimously to ban people from installing TikTok on government-issued devices over safety concerns. But, this legislation essentially applies to any apps that are held by Russian or Chinese parent companies. TikTok falls into this category currently.
To put this into perspective, these government-issued devices also can’t have Candy Crush, dating apps, or any cryptocurrency apps on them, either.
Does this mean TikTok will be banned soon for everyone? No. Much like Facebook had to have its day in court, it’s likely TikTok is going to have to answer some questions about how it's protecting citizens. TikTok says, “We are happy to continue having constructive meetings with state policymakers to discuss our privacy and security practices.”
What this means for you: It’s never a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket, but we actually think the fear that’s being fueled right now makes it an even better time to be a TikTok creator. As more creators worry about this and potentially stop creating on the platform, you will be rewarded by continuing.
