Would you pay $1 for X?

Jan 26, 2024

X is making waves in the media again

Elon Musk, the owner of X (the platform previously known as Twitter), has hinted that users might soon need to pay a "small monthly fee" to access the platform. During a live-streamed discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Musk mentioned this potential move as a way to tackle the issue of bots on the network. He argued that while creating a bot is inexpensive, requiring each bot to pay even a modest fee would increase their effective cost. While the exact subscription fee remains undisclosed they have rolled out a $1 fee in the UK.

Musk revealed that X now boasts 550 million monthly users generating between 100 to 200 million daily posts. Since Musk's acquisition, X has promoted its paid subscription service, X Premium, which costs $8 monthly or $84 annually and offers premium features. However, it hasn't gained widespread popularity among X users.

What does this mean for you? Premium users to see and engage in your content on this platform will rise. This will also help decrease the bots and fake accounts that could be destroying your views and algorithms. This could be a great thing for your videos, but you need to ask yourself if X is the right place for you to be/stay.
